Church of the Virgin Mary
Church of the Divine Mary
Ukraine, Vinnytsia
The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Angels is a Capuchin Catholic church built in 1761 in the Tuscan Baroque style at the expense of the Vinnitsa headman Ludwig Kalinovsky. After the suppression of the Second Polish Uprising and the beginning of the persecution of Catholics, the Capuchin monastery in 1888 was abolished by the tsarist authorities and turned into barracks. For 100 years, the temple was opened and closed several times, until in 1991 it was returned to the Roman Catholic community of Vinnitsa. In 2003, the restoration of the external and internal interiors of the building was carried out, as a result of which premises for the needs of the temple were purchased or added: a library, utility rooms, an office, etc.
A wide two-flight stone staircase leads to the cathedral with a monument to Pope Paul II on the right side. Above the main entrance to the church rises a sculpture of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
