Bar Castle
Bar Castle
Ukraine, Vinnytsia
The construction of a stone castle in Bar on the banks of the Rov River began in 1636, when the city became the residence of the crown hetman Stanislav Konetspolsky. The castle-fortress included 4 towers with guns. In 1648, the castle was taken by the Ukrainian Cossacks and served for some time as the residence of Bogdan Khmelnitsky. In 1672, the castle was captured and destroyed by the Turkish army, and in 1768 it was finally destroyed by Russian troops. The remains of the Bar castle, in the form of wall fragments, can be found in the city park on the river bank. On the territory of the castle there is a monument to Soviet soldiers who died during the liberation of Bar from Nazi invaders.
