The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the three churches in Vilkovo, located in the city center. The church was built in 1855 for the needs of the Old Believer community of the Lipovans, adherents of the two-toed. In 1873, a bell tower 32 meters high with six bells was added to the main building. In September 1962, by order of the state authorities, the church was officially closed and given over to a fish warehouse. In February 1980, a fire broke out in the church, which destroyed a significant part of the buildings.
In 1990, an initiative group of parishioners received permission from the City Council to restore the temple. On September 21, 1993, a permanent ministry began here. The bell tower was decorated with a two-ton bell, for the manufacture of which private donations were collected, cast in 2003 by Artem Egoyan, who previously made a belfry for the
Church of Christ the Savior in Moscow. The bell tower offers a beautiful panorama of the city, rivers and canals.
