Ternopil Museum of Local Lore
Ternopil Regional Museum
Ukraine, Ternopil
The Ternopil Regional Museum of Local Lore was founded in 1913 as the Podolsk Museum of the Folk School Society. During World War II, part of the museum collection was taken to Germany, and the museum premises were badly damaged. Only in 1982, a modern four-story building was specially built for the museum of local lore, taking into account museum needs.
Today, the museum's collection includes 170,000 exhibits reflecting the rich history of the Ternopil region, starting from the 10th century. The most interesting ones include: four sculptures from the side altar of the Buchanskaya Intercession Church by the world-famous sculptor John Pinzel, a unique collection of insects, stuffed rare birds and animals, a reconstruction of the dwelling of a Trypillia culture settlement, a collection of an embroidered shirt by craftswomen from Borshchev, ancient weapons, a collection of XVII icons - early 19th century etc.
