The Ternopil Regional Art Museum was founded in May 1991 on the basis of the art gallery
local history museum, which, in turn, traces its history back to 1913, from the museum of the “Narodnaya school". The art museum with 8,000 exhibits is located in four halls of the pavilion-extension of a modern residential building.
The first hall is dedicated to Ukrainian art: paintings, carvings and graphics of Galicia of the 17th century, works by Ukrainian landscape painters, works of artists associated with the Ternopil region. The second hall presents high-quality reproductions of paintings by famous masters of Italy, Germany, France, Russia, transferred from the Hermitage. The third hall is dedicated to Dionisy Sholdre, an artist and restorer, a native of Ternopil, who restored paintings from the museum, donated 50 of his paintings to the museum. The fourth hall is used for monthly art exhibitions on various topics.
