The monument to Stepan Bandera in Ternopil was opened on December 26, 2008, on the 100th anniversary of his birth, in the park. T. Shevchenko, opposite the building of the regional state administration. The author of the monument is a local sculptor Roman Vilgushinsky. Stepan Andreyevich Bandera was born on January 1, 1909, was the head of the OUN-B, the leader of Ukrainian nationalists. He died in 1959 in Munich at the hands of a KGB agent. The monument is a bronze figure of S. Bandera on a granite pedestal, resolutely moving forward, with a flag fluttering widely in the background. In August 2011, the inscription "Hero of Ukraine" was engraved on the pedestal, and the place where the monument is located became the square named after S. Bandera.
