Church of the Nativity
Church of the Rizdva of Christ
Ukraine, Ternopil
Church of the Nativity of Christ - one of the oldest places of worship in Ternopil, was erected in 1608 on the site of a burned-out wooden Middle Church. After the union of 1700, the temple was divided into the upper - Greek Catholic, in honor of the Holy Trinity and the lower - Orthodox, in honor of the Nativity of Christ. After the reconstructions of the 1660s and 1730s, a utility building appeared in the church complex on the south side and two semicircular towers near the narthex.
During the reconstruction of 1808, the internal height of the temple was increased, new internal paintings appeared. In 1958, the fence, the bell tower and the memorial cross for the victims of the 1770 cholera epidemic were demolished. Currently, the Church of the Nativity of Christ is the cathedral of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. The shrine of the temple is the Ternopil miraculous weeping icon of the Mother of God.
