The church, consecrated in the name of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, became the first church built outside the Sumy fortress. It had the status of a regimental temple, opposite it was the first city cemetery. In the 1920s, the church was closed, and the building itself was used for household needs, later the city crematorium was located here. In 1932 the temple was destroyed by the Bolsheviks. According to the memoirs of old-timers, it was not possible to undermine the church either on the first or on the second attempt.→
