Monument to Taras Shevchenko

The monument to Taras Shevchenko in Sumy was erected in 1957 in the park named after. T.G. Shevchenko. The first monument to T.G. Shevchenko in Sumy by Ivan Kavaleridze made of cubist-style concrete was erected on the site in 1920 and demolished a few years later. The current monument to the great Ukrainian is a bronze figure of Kobzar, 2.5 meters high, mounted on a stepped 4-meter granite pedestal. The authors of the monument are the architect M. Makhanko and the sculptor Y. Krasnozhon, who worked on the creation of monuments to Taras Shevchenko in the cities of Lebedin and Nedrigailov in the Sumy region.
