Elias Church
Ilyinskaya church
Ukraine, Sumy
The Sumy Church of the Prophet Elijah was built in the classical style and consecrated in 1851. The stone temple was erected on the site of two previously burnt wooden churches, from which they managed to save the Gospel in a silver setting and four valuable icons in silver robes, which took pride of place in the new church. A bell tower was erected on the western side of the church. The architectural church complex includes the chapel of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, founded in 1995 with the blessing of the Archbishop of Sumy and Akhtyrsky Bartholomew, painted in the Greek style. In 2008, with donations from caring people from all over Ukraine, a refectory for 120 people was built for the poor.
