Church of the Holy Martyr Valentina

Church of St. Valentines
Ukraine, Sumy
Church of St. Valentina in Sumy was opened to parishioners and consecrated on September 27, 2003 by the bishops of Sumy and Akhtyrsky, also Konotop and Glukhovsky, on the feast of the Exaltation of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord. Saint Valentine of Caesarea, who lived in Palestine at the beginning of the 4th century, is known for being martyred for following the Christian faith in defiance of the pagan rites prevailing at that time.
The authors of the project of the temple are Sumy architects Vladimir Bykov and Sergey Vintonyak. The church, located on the territory of a well-maintained park of the local agricultural university, was built in the form of a cross, with paths leading to each side of it. The temple has 2 entrances and 5 domes - the main one, in the center, and 4 small ones on the sides of the cross. The church can accommodate up to 500 people, thanks to the balconies around the perimeter of the second tier.
The church has a Sunday school for studying the Bible and Orthodox rites. Newlyweds often come here to get married, and the area around the temple is one of the favorite places among Sumy residents for photo shoots and walks.
