The Shatsk National Natural Park with an area of 48,977 hectares was created to preserve, recreate and rationally use the natural complexes of the Shatsk Lake District. The park is located in the north-west of the Volyn region, between the Pripyat and Western Bug rivers, in the west it borders on Poland, in the north on Belarus. It includes the botanical reserve of national importance "Vtensky", forest reserves of local importance "Rostansky" and "Yelnya", ichthyological reserve "Somiets" and four natural monuments of local importance. The administration of the reserve is located in the village of Svityaz, Shatsk district, where a visitor center operates for tourists.
32 species of plants and 73 species of predators, birds and insects from the flora and fauna of the park are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. There are 22 lakes in the park, among them the largest are:
Svityaz, Pulemets, Luki and Lucimer. Many boarding houses and recreation centers are scattered along the shores of the lakes, and fishing is popular here. For lovers of outdoor activities, the park is a great place for picking mushrooms and hunting in the season. Horseback riding and hiking along ecological routes are offered.
