From the village of Gusintsy flooded by the Kanevsky reservoir, only a plundered church and a bell tower without a dome remained - a mystical island in the midst of a mass of water. In summer, you can only get here by boat, and in winter - on ice.

The Church of the Intercession, built in the 18th century, and the dilapidated bell tower are surrounded not only by water, but also by numerous legends. For example, about the fact that on church holidays the ringing of bells is heard here (despite the fact that the bells were removed and taken away a long time ago). Or that groans are heard from the church on Intercession, according to different versions, either monks or Cossacks, grieving for the trampled shrine.

In 1969, when it became known that the village would be flooded, the head of the local village council ordered the church to be restored, for which he soon received a severe reprimand from the regional party committee. Historically savvy fishermen at the ice-hole and the small local parishioners who come here on holidays commemorate the brave restorer with a kind word: thanks to this repair, the church was able to stand in the water for more than 30 years and is still afloat.
It is dry inside the church, the water stopped at the threshold, not daring to enter. There are some frescoes inside. True, someone cut down the faces of many saints on the walls and took them away in an unknown direction. The 18th century church is slowly but surely dying.
