The Church of the Savior is one of the oldest temples in Poltava, an architectural monument of national importance. In 1705, the Church of the Savior was built, as a temporary one, at the expense of the Poltava colonel Iskra on the site of the burnt Church of the Transfiguration. After the victory over the Swedes in the Battle of Poltava, Peter I served a prayer service here for the salvation of the city, and the fallen defenders of the fortress were buried on the square near the church. Therefore, it was decided to preserve the church, for which in 1845 a stone tent was built over the wooden church according to the project of the architect K.A.Ton. In 1847, a small stone bell tower was erected near the church. In 1849, a
monument was erected opposite the Church of the Savior at the resting place of Peter the Great. Several icons of the 17th century are kept in the church.
