Monument to Ukrainian Cossacks
Monument to Cossack glory, Monument to Ukrainian Cossacks
Ukraine, Poltava
The monument to the Cossacks was opened in 1994 as part of the events in honor of the 225th anniversary of the birth of I.P. Kotlyarevsky. Here, on Panyansky Boulevard, at the beginning of the 18th century there was a watchtower of the Poltava fortress.
The monument was erected as a tribute to the memory of the Ukrainian Cossacks who fell during the Battle of Poltava during the Northern War of 1700-1721, and in memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom of Ukraine in ancient times. On a granite base in the form of a barrow, there is a large marble Cossack cross with a modest inscription “To Ukrainian Cossacks who perished”. At the foot of the monument are two bunchuks - symbols of the hetman's power and the ancient coat of arms of Poltava. It is interesting that on one of the stones of the pedestal the inscription "Established on the day of the Protection of the Mother of God 1983" is engraved.
