The monument to Marusa Churai is a monument in honor of the Ukrainian folk song, embodied in the figure of the creator and performer of folk songs Maria Gordeevna Churai (1625-53), who, according to legend, lived in Poltava. She is credited with the authorship of about twenty songs, many of which have become folk - “Oh, don’t go, Gritsya, that one is at the party”, “Kozachenkos have risen to light”, etc.
Creativity and life of Marusya Churai are reflected in the works of Ukrainian writers, poets and composers: N. Lysenko, M. Starytsky, L. Zabashta, in the novel in verse by Lina Kostenko "Marusya Churai".
The monument is built into the fountain, located near the Regional Music and Drama Theater. N.V. Gogol on Theater Square. The authors of the monument, opened on April 14, 2006, are Poltava sculptors Dmitry Korshunov and Valery Golub.
