The estate of the outstanding writer I.P. Kotlyarevsky in the historical center of Poltava was recreated in 1969, declared the year of Kotlyarevsky by UNESCO, according to the drawing by T. Shevchenko, made from life in 1845. The poet’s house is a typical Ukrainian dwelling of the 18th century, belonged to his grandfather, who served as a deacon in
Assumption Cathedral located nearby. In his Poltava home, the classic of Ukrainian literature created most of his works, in particular, the famous Aeneid. Ivan Petrovich was the director of the Poltava Theater for which he wrote the plays Natalka Poltavka and Moskal-Charivnik. The memorial complex included a house of 5 rooms, a barn, a well with a crane. In the house you can see the handwritten archive of I. Kotlyarevsky, his personal belongings, furniture and utensils of the 18th-19th centuries, lifetime and later editions of the poet's works.
