The Museum of Western and Oriental Art in Odessa is one of the largest art museums in Ukraine, founded in 1923 on the basis of the collections of the
Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts of Novorossiysk University and a number of private assemblies. The museum is housed in the palace of Count A.A. Abaza, an architectural monument erected in 1856-1858 according to the project of the architect L. Otton in eclectic forms with a combination of baroque, empire and rococo. The main staircase and lobby of the palace are made of Carrara marble.
The exposition of the museum presents works of Western European art of the 15th–20th centuries, art of the countries of the East, and a department of art of ancient times. In total, the museum's funds include 10,000 exhibits. On the museum's website you can see a large electronic collection of works by contemporary artists.
