Formally, the dolphinarium in Odessa has existed for 10 years. For the first seven years it was seasonal. For the summer season, teams of dolphinariums came to Odessa, brought sea animals and organized performances. He changed his place several times: at the beginning on the territory of the yacht club at 9-st.B. Fontana, then in the outdoor swimming pool. But the poor conditions of keeping animals in the coastal enclosure and in the open pool did not allow them to stay in Odessa all year round. Constant transportation of animals could not have a good effect on their health. Paying attention to this, the Nerum company decided to build a stationary year-round dolphinarium in Odessa. Design documentation was developed and approved, and construction began. On June 4, 2005, the opening of the all-season Odessa City Dolphinarium took place. The opening of the Odessa Dolphinarium "Nemo" was an event not only within the framework of the Southern capital, but also in Ukraine as a whole.
The Dolphinarium was designed and built according to international standards. The content of marine mammals complies with all approved conventions and requirements. The fact that for the first time in 10 years, among all the dolphinariums of Ukraine, a baby dolphin was born in Odessa speaks about the conditions for keeping marine animals and the professionalism of specialists. This fact attracted a lot of media attention, including international ones.
Odessa Dolphinarium "Nemo" has been operating for the fourth year. But even today, the pearl by the sea is one of the best resorts in Ukraine, boasting the largest displacement (3 pools containing about 3 million liters of purified sea water) and the most modern dolphinarium in the CIS. During this time, the Nemo Dolphinarium has become one of the leading places in the list of attractions of the beauty of Odessa.
The activity of the Odessa City Dolphinarium is of a scientific, educational and environmental education nature. The performances in the dolphinarium tell about the physiology and characters of dolphins, the peculiarities of their behavior, as well as the need for careful attitude to dolphins and to all nature. Every year, tens of thousands of disabled people, orphans, children from low-income families visit performances at the Odessa Dolphinarium for free. A “Center for the Rescue and Rehabilitation of Sick and Wounded Cetaceans washed ashore in the North-Western Region of the Black Sea” was created at the Dolphinarium.

Dolphin therapy sessions are held on the basis of the Odessa City Dolphinarium. This method of therapy is successfully used when working with various developmental disorders - cerebral palsy, autism, mental retardation, ADHD, speech delay, etc. Dolphin therapy takes place both in summer and in winter.
The year 2007 was declared by the United Nations as the Year of the Dolphins. The European Academy of Natural Sciences (AENS) closely followed the experience of European states in saving and educating a humane attitude towards these amazing animals. Therefore, it is especially pleasing that at the end of last year, the European Academy of Natural Sciences (AENS) awarded the Odessa Dolphinarium with a silver medal and a diploma from Nobel laureate Albert Schweitzer “For the promotion of environmental knowledge, for caring for dolphins and for the development of dolphin therapy”.
