The Museum of the History of the Department of Internal Affairs, which tells about the history of law enforcement agencies in Odessa, opened in 1980 in the building of the financial and economic department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine - a former apartment building built in 1892. In five halls of the museum, which was awarded the title of People's Museum in 1982, more than 2,000 exhibits are presented. Among them are weapons confiscated from bandits, master keys, counterfeit money; weapons and police uniforms from the time of the civil war; photographs, personal belongings and documents of the first employees of the city criminal investigation department.
Among the unique exhibits are a pistol made in 1848 and in service with the tsarist police, a pre-war fire helmet - it was he who was shown in the comedy "Gentlemen of Fortune" as the helmet of Alexander the Great, a stuffed service dog named Rome, with the help of which the over 200 crimes.
