One of the most famous houses in Odessa is located at Vorontsovsky Lane, 4 (you can get to the lane from Primorsky Boulevard). If you stand in a certain place of the alley opposite this house, then it seems that the house is completely flat, as if consisting of one facade wall. Imagine, you see that the house is residential, there are curtains hanging on the windows, clothes are drying on the balconies, there are flowers in tubs...And the house is flat! Such an illusion is created by one of the walls of the house, which is at an acute angle with respect to the street. An urban legend says that the merchant, who started building this house, allegedly did not have enough money to complete the building (he either drank it away or lost it) and he decided to save money on one of the walls of the house by bringing two walls together at an acute angle. : ) Actually, the angled wall is the back side of one of the wings of the house, and, of course, the house is not "three-walled". But the legend is cool, as for me.
They say that the "house-wall" is not the only one in Odessa, but the house in Vorontsovsky Lane gained popularity thanks to the scandal as well. A few years ago, some company decided to build a multi-storey modern building next to the "house-wall", which would destroy the optical illusion beloved by the townspeople and guests of Odessa. The entire city community and caring people stood up to defend the "house with one wall"; The voice of the people was still heard by the municipality and took the house in Vorontsovsky Lane under its care, and the construction that had begun was stopped in disgrace. Traces of construction in the form of brick columns with remnants of reinforcement are still visible and, by the way, they are located just opposite the place from where it is best to view this attraction.
