Military History Museum. A.V. Suvorov was opened in 1960 as a military-historical branch of the
Regional Museum of Local Lore, in the building of the former fortress church —
St. Nicholas Cathedral, which was closed at that time. Since 1972, the museum has had its current name, and in 2000 it moved to a two-story building of the former district committee of the Communist Party. The museum with almost 15 thousand collection presents weapons, military uniforms, banners, coins, paintings, unique photographs, documents telling about the history of the region from antiquity to the present day. Part of the collection is dedicated to the Russian-Turkish wars. But the famous diorama "Storm of the Ochakov Fortress by Russian Troops in 1788" is in the storerooms - the size of the museum premises does not allow it to be fully placed.
