The Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, after the capture of Ochakov by Russian troops and the Black Sea Cossacks, was rebuilt in 1794 from a Turkish mosque by building a wooden dome over it. A few years later, a stone altar, narthex and porch were added, the minaret was converted into a bell tower. A new hexagonal bell tower with a semicircular roof was erected in 1854. After the revolution, silver vestments, silver items of church utensils, as well as six bells were taken out of the temple, and a palace of pioneers was set up in it. From 1960 to 2000, the
Military History Museum named after A.V. Suvorov.
Currently, regular services are held in the cathedral, the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra of Lycia, with a piece of his relics, is kept here.
