The Samara Monastery is located outside the eastern outskirts of the city on the banks of the Samara River. It was founded in 1602 and for a century was the main Cossack monastery. Its fortifications played an important role in the Russian-Turkish war. At the end of the 18th century, the Nicholas Church was built in the Ukrainian baroque style. In 1993, the monastery resumed its activities.
