Monument to Lennon
Monument to Lennon
Ukraine, Mohyliv-Podilskyi
The only monument in Ukraine and one of four in the world to the famous British rock musician Lennon is located in front of the entrance to the Mogilev-Podolsky city park in the John Lennon Square. The sculpture of a member of the famous Beatles group was created in 1990 by the famous Podolsk sculptor Alexei Aleshkin, on the initiative of graduates of the local school, who brought a granite block from the quarry for the monument. Since the party authorities of the city forbade the installation of a monument, the sculpture was kept in the local church until 1992, when it was moved to the square. John Lennon is shown wearing his famous glasses, with nude figures of Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono visible from behind. The inscription "Give the world a chance" is engraved on the pedestal.
