Monument to V. Visotsky
Ukraine, Melitopol
The monument to Vladimir Vysotsky in Melitopol was opened on September 24, 2000, on the central street of the city - Bohdan Khmelnitsky Avenue, in front of the Passage shopping center. The erection of the monument was sponsored by local businessman Khasim Memetov, the owner of the Passage shopping center and a big fan of Vladimir Semenovich's work. The author of the monument was the honored sculptor of Ukraine Konstantin Chekanev from Dnepropetrovsk, for whom this work was the last, due to an incurable disease. Vladimir Vysotsky is depicted in full growth, with a guitar, at the time of his speech. Twice a year, on January 25 - on Vysotsky's birthday and on July 25 - on the day of his death, admirers of the artist's work meet at the monument, lay flowers at the monument, and sing Vysotsky's songs.
