Church of the Franciscans
Church of St. John Chrysostom, Church and Franciscan Monastery
Ukraine, Lviv
Church and monastery of the Franciscans (now the Church of St. John Chrysostom and the Theological Seminary of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (KP)) - a religious building in Lviv, an architectural monument. Address: Lysenko street, 43.
The church of the Roman Catholic Order of the Franciscans was built in 1876-1888 according to the project of the architect Yulian Zakhariyevich. The building is small in size, built in a neo-Romanesque style, fashionable for its time, under the influence of eclecticism. Its architecture shows a free arrangement of architectural forms, borrowed from the Renaissance and other historical styles.
In Soviet times, in the cells of the monastery (Lysenko street, 45) there was the 7th department of the 1st infectious diseases clinical hospital. In 1991, the building of the church was transferred to the diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate. In the left wing of the former Franciscan convent, a theological seminary of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (KP) was opened.
