Church of St. Martin
Church of St. Martin
Ukraine, Lviv
The Church of St. Martin is a monument of baroque architecture in Lviv. It is located in the Podzamche district on Zholkovskaya street, 8 (former names - St. Martin, Decembrists).
The wooden church of St. Martin was founded in 1630 for the Catholic monastic order of shod Carmelites. It took its present form after it was rebuilt in stone after a fire in 1648. Later, the church housed a hospital for war invalids. The church gave its name to the street on which it is located - St. Martin's Street (it was used before joining the Ukrainian SSR).
The building is made of stone, single-nave, rectangular in plan, with a signature over a high gable roof. The facade of the church is divided by pilasters, the original capitals of which are composed of military fittings. The interior of the temple was painted with frescoes by the artist I. Maer in the 18th century. Adjacent to the church is a two-storey cell building, which includes a bell tower from the side of the main facade.
In the 1990s, the building was handed over to the community of Evangelical Christians.
