Church of Our Lady of Ostrobrama
Church of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God
Ukraine, Lviv
The Church of the Mother of God of Ostrobramskaya (since 1992 - the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary) is a religious building in Lviv, in the historical area of Lychakiv. Address: Lychakovskaya street, 175.
The building was built in 1932 by the Polish architect Tadeusz Obminsky as a Roman Catholic church. On the north side, a tall tower resembling a Florentine campanile adjoins the temple. The construction of the temple complex was completed in 1938. The construction of the church was carried out through the efforts of the Roman Catholic Archbishop Bolesław Twardowski. The main building is in the form of an old Christian basilica. Very original for the architecture of Lviv is the bell tower (campanila) up to 60 meters high.
After the Great Patriotic War, the church was closed and used as a bookstore.
In 1992, the temple was consecrated as the Greek Catholic Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. Today this building belongs to the Order of the Salesians of the Eastern Rite.
The Church of the Intercession has an addition from the beginning of this century - this is the Oratorium Children and Youth Youth Center of St. Dominic Savio.
In 2005, a bronze bust of Vladimir Lenin was discovered in the annex of the temple, which was planned to be melted down into a church bell.
