The Dominican monastery is located in the center of Zhovkva next to the
Zholkva synagogue. It was built in 1655 on the site of a burnt wooden church of the Virgin Mary. The majestic baroque monastery was part of the city fortifications. Having reached its peak under the Polish kings Sobieski, the temple fell into decay under the Austrians, and was completely closed under the Soviet regime. In 1995, the monastery was transferred to the Greek Catholic community and now operates as the Church of St. Josaphat.
