The Church of the Holy Father Nicholas the Wonderworker is the oldest architectural monument in Lviv. Located on Bohdan Khmelnitsky street, 28.

Nicholas Church is the oldest monument of monumental architecture in Lviv. The church gives an idea of ​​the nature of ancient Russian architecture. The temple was built under Mount Budelnitsa on the Volyn highway on the territory of an ancient roundabout city. The first evidence of him dates back to 1292. Excavations in 1977 confirmed that it was founded in the 13th century. It is assumed that the church served as the family burial place of the Galician princes.

In 1471 the church was exempted from paying taxes. In 1543, the parish received the rights of "legal", that is, residents within the boundaries of the parish were now subject to church authority and court (and not castle, as it was before). In 1544, the Nikolaev Orthodox Church Brotherhood was founded, which contained a shelter for the poor and a school. In the 17th century, the Church of St. Nicholas was the church of the Ruthenian guild of Shevtsy (shoemakers).
In 1623, the church was damaged by fire, in 1772 it was rebuilt, and in 1800 it burned again. From the original construction of the XIII century, the foundations and the lower part of the walls, made of hewn blocks of white limestone, have been preserved.
Cruciform in plan, which consists of a main square nave with a somewhat elongated semicircular apse, from the west to which a rectangular vestibule adjoins, from the north and south - side chapels with semicircular apses. The nave and chancel have domed endings with lanterns. The simple and severe appearance of the temple, the expressive pyramidal composition of dissected volumes put it among the interesting works of the Galician architectural school.
