The Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir-Volynsky is the oldest and only surviving monument of the times of the Old Russian state in Volyn. Erected in 1160 by Mstislav Izyaslavich, the future Grand Duke of Kiev. The inside of the temple was frescoed and luxuriously decorated. In the pantheon of the temple are the burial places of the Mstislavovich princes, boyars and bishops. After the invasion of the Tatar Khan Batu in the 13th century, only the outer walls remained of the cathedral, but the temple was restored. In 1596, the temple became Uniate, the Catholics remade the Byzantine architecture of the temple in the Latin manner.
In 1896-1900 Assumption Cathedral was restored in the form of the XII century, all architectural changes were dismantled, the cathedral was re-consecrated.
