I was in the Zoo at the beginning of the reconstruction - the scale of the planned work then impressed me. And now, two years later, I decided to go see what they managed to do and what they spent 1.5 million euros on (fortunately, not from the budget).
At the entrance, you are met with the same clutter and old cages with birds and small animals (is it really impossible to make a modern bird pavilion, because there are interesting feathered specimens, including bright Macaws - this will attract the attention of visitors at the entrance). Further, it is clear that the territory has been expanded and cleared, paths have been laid, but everything is somehow still in an unfinished form, weeds-nettles have not been mowed in places, and cut down trees have not been removed. But on the other hand, there are many benches, gazebos for relaxing, there is a clearing with a fire for mass celebrations (for example, they organized such a holiday on Ivan Kupala). In general, here is a contrast on a contrast.
Actually, I went to see the new enclosures for lions, tigers and bears.
Yes, they are impressive, and they stand out very much against the background of old pens and cages, which, as I understand it, no one is going to either replace or modernize.
I really wanted to look at cats (lions, tigers, lynx - I love cats), but in the end I "hung" for half an hour near the bears - very funny animals. And the cats are lazy, they hid in the winter aviary and are almost invisible behind the thick bars. The lynx was especially sorry - she was put in a very small old cage, where she even had nowhere to walk - lynxes love space! Why can't it be attached to relatives in Euro-apartments and thus create a "Cat's Town", otherwise some kind of discrimination and mockery.
The same applies to chanterelles - they are very nimble animals, they don’t sit still for a second, they constantly run, and their cage is 1.5 * 2m - how is it? They built a huge pavilion for three monkeys, but there was no more room for the foxes?
In general, on the territory of the Zoo, there is a noticeable division into "Europe" (for which funds were allocated) and "Lutsk" (which is almost not taken care of). There is no general idea, theme, plan, zoning and, as a result, a general well-thought-out look of the Zoo, and so far it remains more of a Zoo than a Zoo.
If we compare what was before the reconstruction and now, then the changes are visible and impressive. But if you know how much money is spent, then many questions arise.
It is still worth visiting the Zoo, especially with kids - they are delighted with the animals. In summer, it is better to come in the morning or in the evening, as the animals hide in the afternoon heat. On the territory there is a toilet and trays with water-ice cream (I did not notice a full-fledged cafe with food).
Cost: 40 UAH. adult, 25 UAH. for children, children up to 1m tall - free of charge.
Open daily, in summer on weekdays from 10.00 to 19.00, on weekends and holidays - until 20.00, in winter - until 17.00.
