Castle Hill

Ukraine, Liubech
A mountain in the center of Lyubech, which got its name from the castle (fortress), built, according to historians, in the 11th century by the Chernigov prince Vladimir Monomakh. It was here that in 1097 the famous congress of Russian princes took place, which put an end to civil strife. In honor of this event, a memorial sign was erected on the top of the mountain, already in our time. Presumably in the middle of the XII century, the Lyubech castle, which served as the residence of the Chernigov princes, was burned down by the Smolensk prince Rostislav Mstislavich. And although the castle has not been rebuilt since then, the name of the mountain has taken root to this day.

Of course, now there is neither a castle, nor its courtyard buildings, nor an even more ancient settlement, but there is a beautiful view towards Belarus and the neighboring Lysaya Gora. Here (and not in Kyiv) the princes were going to decide the fate of Kievan Rus in 1097, officially in the fight against the Polovtsy, but in reality - to divide the land between sons and grandchildren. Now there is a monument to them. And here trees were planted by politicians. The tree of President Yu did not take root, but the father's oak is turning green.
