Monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky
Monument to Bogdanov Khmelnytsky
Ukraine, Kryvyi Rih
The monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky in Nikopol was erected in January 1954 at the location of the former Nikitinsky Cossack Sich, where in February 1648 Khmelnitsky was elected hetman of Ukraine. The author of the monument is the famous Ukrainian sculptor and film director Ivan Petrovich Kavaleridze. The cast-iron sculpture of Bogdan Khmelnytsky, 3 meters high, is installed on a plastered brick pedestal of a rectangular shape, 2.95 meters high, on a stepped base. The hetman's right hand is holding a mace tucked into the Cossack belt, and the left is holding a letter. A cast-iron memorial plaque with the inscription: "Bogdan Khmelnitsky 1595-1657" is fixed on the pedestal.
