Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin
Cathedral of the Rizdva Bogoroditsi
Ukraine, Kremenchuk
The Kozelshchinsky Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin was erected in 1906, on the site of the first church built in 1882 at the expense of the Kapnist family on the occasion of the recovery of their daughter Maria from a serious illness, thanks to prayer in front of the family icon, brought from Italy in the 18th century. Thanks to this miracle, the construction was carried out with the involvement of large funds and with the participation of the great princes of the Russian Empire, including Emperor Nicholas II. The main shrine of the cathedral in the Ukrainian baroque style is the miraculous Kozelshchyna icon depicting the Mother of God the Healer.
The cathedral has preserved a unique wall painting and an iconostasis that has no analogues, created by the brilliant master M. Murashko. Now it houses the Kozelshchinsky Nativity of the Theotokos Convent.
