Ukraine, Kovel
The Literary and Memorial Museum of Lesya Ukrainka in the village of Kolodyazhne was founded in 1949 in the estate where Larisa Kosach spent her childhood and youth. After the birth of her two sisters and a brother, a so-called “housing” was built for all the children. Lesin "white" house. In 1890, when Lesya Ukrainka was already living in Kyiv, she was preparing her first poetry collection for publication in Kolodyazhny. The last time Lesya visited the village was in February 1907. During the Second World War, the estate was destroyed, only the garden survived, and the museum had to rebuild the premises, recreating the appearance of the estate.
In 1991, the museum exposition was updated, its four sections present the memorial items of Lesya Ukrainka and her family, lifetime editions of the works of the poetess and her mother Elena Pchilka, photographs, household items and ethnography of Volyn, reconstructed fragments of the study and the rural hut.
