On the islands of Ros, which are located in the center of the city of Korsun-Shevchenkovsky, there is a palace ensemble. Prior to this, on the Island (which in the XX century received the name of Kotsyubinsky) in the XI-XIII centuries. there were settlements, and on the break of the XVI-XVII century. - Peter and Paul Orthodox Monastery.
The palace ensemble, whose designs are kept in the Drawings Room of the Warsaw University Library, has been in the making for more than 100 years. Construction began in 1782 by the Korsun headman, Prince Stanislav Poniatovsky, as a summer country residence (architects - J.A. Muntz and J.D. Lindsay). Korsunsky Palace with a hall with a second light (its design is attributed to Robert Adam) was the first palace built in the Neo-Gothic style in the lands of the Commonwealth. In 1799, the Korsun estate was bought by the Russian treasury, and the most powerful prince Pyotr Lopukhin became its owner. In 1835-40s, during the time of the next owner, the most powerful prince Pavel Lopukhin, the palace ensemble acquired cardinal changes. At the end of perestroika, it acquired the features of Russian romanticism with elements of neo-gothic, classicism, and French medieval defensive architecture. The wing was partially completed, an entrance tower, a Swiss house, a greenhouse, a Lutheran chapel and an arena were built. During perestroika, the order gallery was destroyed. Korsunsky palace of the middle of the XIX century. was one of the most refined and richest not only in Russia, but also in Europe. Today, 10 out of 13 structures of the Korsun palace ensemble have been preserved, which are monuments of national importance.
