St. Panteleimon Skete in Feofaniya
St. Panteleimon Convent
Ukraine, Kyiv
The skete is located in the tract, formerly called "Lazarevshchina". At the request of the first Bishop of Chigirinsky Theophan, since 1802 this tract became a farm at the country vicariate house - the dacha of the reverend rector of the Mikhailovsky Golden-Domed Monastery. In 1802–1803 the first temple was built and consecrated - in honor of the Miracle of the Archangel Michael and the bishop's house at the temple. Metropolitan Gabriel of Kyiv gave his blessing to rename Lazarevshchina into Feofaniya. St. Innocent worked hard here and introduced biblical names in Feofaniya. Ep. Seraphim in 1861 gave his blessing to open a skete in Feofaniya. The skete was equipped with the labors of experienced elders, ascetics of piety. Boniface and shiigumen Irinarkh. Before the revolution, 4 churches were built in Feofania: the Miracle of the Archangel Michael (wooden), All Saints, the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God and the Cathedral of the Great Martyr. Panteleimon.
The skete was closed before the war. Everything was either destroyed or mutilated beyond recognition. In 1941, during the defense of Kyiv, the Panteleimon Cathedral was subjected to mortar fire. After the war, the Institute of Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR conducted experiments with directional explosions in the cathedral. On May 7/20, 1990, the mutilated building of the cathedral was returned to the Church. Restoration work began immediately. Since 1993, Feofaniya has become a skete of the Intercession Convent. August 17/30, 1998 St. Panteleimon's Cathedral was consecrated by the hierarchal rank (for the first time in 90 years of existence). The Church of the Annunciation is under construction. May 27 / June 9, 2002 the monastery became independent.
