National Museum of Medicine of Ukraine
Ukraine, Kyiv
The National Museum of Medicine of Ukraine was established in Kyiv in 1973. It is located in the building of the former Anatomical Theater of Kiev University, which was designed by the famous architect A. Beretti in 1853. It is an architectural monument of the XIX century. The founder of the museum was the Honored Scientist of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor A. Grando.
The museum presents the development of medicine in Ukraine from ancient times to the present day. The museum organization was based on the latest concept of museology, which made it possible to use scientific, methodological and documentary materials and exhibits in combination with architectural, artistic, technical and audiovisual means. In addition to the poster exhibition, the museum created original interiors with portrait figures of famous scientists and doctors, and dioramas dedicated to the most outstanding events in Ukrainian medicine. The exposition of the museum also includes works of Ukrainian fine arts in the field of medicine.
The Museum of Medicine of Ukraine is one of the largest and most original medical museums not only in Ukraine, but also in Europe. The work on the creation of this museum was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in 1983. By the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated February 15, 1999, the museum received the status of the National Museum of Medicine of Ukraine.
