It was built at the end of the 17th century, rebuilt at the end of the 18th century by Grigorovich-Barsky, when it took on its current appearance. According to some reports, Tsar Peter I lived in this house during his visit to Kyiv in 1706. It is believed that the building belonged to Hetman Ivan Mazepa, who personally received the king. However, many historians consider this version to be another Kyiv legend - reliable data on where Peter stayed in Kyiv have not been preserved. Built as a residential building, then it was used as a "strait house", Podolsk parish school, barracks, and an orphanage.
