The stone church of Nikolai Naberezhny in Kyiv was erected in 1772 according to the project of architect I.G. Grigorovich-Barsky opposite the old wooden church of Nikolai Naberezhny, which later burned down in a fire in 1799. It stands on Podol near the Dnieper River, hence its name.
The tetraconch temple is made in the forms of the Ukrainian Cossack baroque with elements of classicism, but the bell tower of 1792 with a warm church in the Byzantine style spoils the spectacular appearance of the temple. In Soviet times, the church was used by the Old Believer community until its self-dissolution in October 1938. During the Nazi occupation of Kyiv, the temple was again open to believers. After the war, the temple was used as a film warehouse and a concert hall. During the restoration of 1971-1972, authentic murals of the 18th century with images of a Ukrainian foreman were discovered. Since the 1990s, the church has been an active temple of the UAOC. Icons of the 18th century are kept here, as well as the miraculous icon of St. Nicholas.
