Kanev, the southern outpost of Kievan Rus, which later became the "Mecca" of the Ukrainian people, a place of popular pilgrimage and worship of the great Taras Shevchenko... The visiting card of the city is Chernecha Gora. This corner of the earth happened to become known to the whole world. Here, under a high mound, an outstanding Ukrainian folk poet and artist Taras Grigoryevich Shevchenko is buried, after whom the mountain is called Tarasova.
Tarasova Gora today is a cultural and historical monument of world significance, a state museum-reserve. It includes Shevchenko's grave with a monument, a literary museum, the exposition introduces the poetic and artistic ("painting") works of the brilliant creator, helps to comprehend the sources of his work, the first monuments on the poet's grave, a hut with "Tarasova Svetlitsa" - the first folk museum of Shevchenko ; architectural and memorial complex; the grave of the faithful keeper of the Shevchenko tomb - Ivan Yadlovsky, who looked after the poet's grave for more than 50 years!, and a reserved park with an area of 25 hectares.
To the south and west of Tarasova Gora, on the hills, cut by the densest natural network of ravines in Europe, age-old, mainly oak and elm forests are noisy, which in these parts have an important soil-protective and water-protective value. Now it is the "ownership" of the Kanev State Nature Reserve, the scientific base of the Kiev National Shevchenko University.
