The Polish Gate is a unique hydraulic structure in the Old Town of Kamenetz-Podolsky, which at the same time served, at one time, as a city gate, a defensive tower and a dam. Two fortification towers were on the left bank of the Smotrich River, three on the right, connected by a pedestrian bridge. In the body of the dam that crossed the riverbed, there were two locks that, if necessary, blocked the flow of the river, creating a water barrier for the attackers. In peacetime, the dam kept the water level high in the river. At present, the dam of the Polish Gates has been destroyed, but the towers have been preserved. A staircase leads to the Polish Gate from
Peter and Paul Church.
