Khotyn fortress

Fortress Khotyn
Ukraine, Khotyn
During the XV-XVI centuries. The Khotyn fortress was the residence of the Moldavian masters. In September - early October 1621, the famous Battle of Khotyn took place near the walls of the Khotyn fortress, which glorified the Zaporizhzhya Cossacks and their hetman Peter Konashevich-Sagaydachny and became a turning point in the history of the Ottoman Empire. The victory near Khotyn saved Western Europe from the invasion of the Janissaries, made a strong impression on all peoples and was reflected in literature.

Khotyn fortress, in my opinion, is one of the best preserved sites in Ukraine. Stunning scenery, ancient building - these are the undoubted advantages. But getting there is not easy. The shuttle bus stops at a stop from which there is not the slightest hint - where to go next? The city itself is more like a village, one-story buildings, rural shops and not a shred of infrastructure.

Living in Kamenetz-Podolsk, we could not miss the opportunity to visit the Khotyn fortress. On our car, having agreed with the guide, we went on a trip. Khotyn is located in Chernivtsi Oblast From Kamenetz-Podolsk, drive 30 kilometers to the fortress. The guide has become an indispensable part of our trips, and we always resort to his services on occasion. To see the restored fortress and delve into its long history, what could be better for an excursion into the past of our country. There are many worthy exhibits in the fortress.

Heard a lot about this fortress, watched photos and a couple of documentaries. And at some point, I literally started to rave about her. Well, a week ago I finally got there! I remained in children's delight, despite the fact that the fortress is frankly neglected. Compared to what I saw in Poland and the Czech Republic, the situation can be said to be deplorable. But, if we take into account what the Khotyn fortress went through, everything falls into place. The stone castle, which many people know, is only a small part of the fortifications.

If you haven't been here, you haven't seen a real fortress. We spent three hours here with a guide, but it seemed to me that we had discovered only a small part of this building. Inside there is a museum with samples of weapons, armor, clothing. There is a separate hall for instruments of medieval torture.

A majestic castle that amazes with its magnificence! I can’t believe that they tried to take these 20-meter walls by storm! The castle is worth a visit, it is a real gem of Ukraine!
