Monument to the first shipbuilders
Frigate, Monument to the First Shipbuilders
Ukraine, Kherson
The monument to the first shipbuilders in the form of a three-masted sailing frigate was installed in 1972 on the Ushakov embankment in Kherson. The monument made of sheet copper on a granite pedestal was erected in honor of the first ships of the Black Sea Fleet, launched from the stocks of the local Admiralty shipyard in 1783 - the 66-gun battleship "Glory of Catherine" and the 50-gun frigate "George the Victorious". Below is a bas-relief with figures of shipbuilders and sailors.
The frigate was created by sculptors V. Shkuropad, V. Potrebenko and I. Belokur and architect Y. Tarasov.
