Kherson Regional Art Museum. A.A. Shovkunenko opened for visitors on May 27, 1978 and was named after the People's Artist of the USSR Alexei Alekseevich Shovkunenko, a local native. The Art Museum was created on the basis of the art department
Kherson Museum of Local Lore and the collection of the Leningrad collector M.I. Kornilovskaya from 500 works of fine art of the 18th-20th centuries, decorative and applied art and sculptures donated to Kherson.
The modern museum collection includes over 10,000 exhibits representing domestic and foreign paintings, iconography of the 18th century, graphics, sculpture, arts and crafts. The building, which houses the museum, was built in 1897 according to the design of the Odessa architect A.B. Minkus for the Kherson City Council.
