The airport in Kharkov is one of the largest in Ukraine, located 13 km southeast of the city center. The existing terminal building was built in 1954 in the style of the so-called. "Stalinist architecture", implying a mixture of classical and monumental styles. The main entrance is decorated with a portico with eight columns, the building is crowned with an octagonal small tower with a spire, with a gilded wreath at the end. The building of the Kharkiv airport is an architectural monument of local importance.
In August 2010, a new passenger terminal with an area of 20,000 sq.m was opened, and the old airport building, after reconstruction, turned into a zone for servicing VIP passengers. A hangar for private jets was also erected. In 2011, a new 2,500-meter runway was built to accommodate all types of medium-haul airliners.
