Cossack mountain
Kozacha mountain
Ukraine, Kharkiv
Cossack Mountain is located 18 km from Zmiev and 50 km from Kharkov near the village of Koropovo, above the Seversky Donets River. Krucha is so named because of the nearby Cossack St. Nicholas Monastery, from which ruins have been preserved. The monastery, where retired Zaporizhzhya Cossacks lived, was destroyed in 1788, during the liquidation of the Zaporizhzhya Sich on the orders of the Russian Empress Catherine II. According to legend, realizing that the forces were unequal, the Cossacks in monastic cassocks rushed down the steep slope into the river, trying to swim away from the Russian troops. On the mountain there is a wooden cross with a commemorative plaque about this event.
If you climb up along a narrow path, then from a height of 60 meters you will see a magnificent view of the river, forest, Korobovy Khutory recreation centers.
