The ancient settlement with an area of 2 hectares, located on a hill above the Seim River in the Gorodok tract, is the child of the annalistic city of Putivl. Archaeological research on the settlement has been carried out systematically since 1947. During the excavations, fragments of defensive walls and the foundation of the Church of the Ascension were found and conserved underground, from where Prince Igor Svyatoslavich attacked the Polovtsy in 1185, the remains of residential and utility buildings, the remains of the ramparts, the burial place of the inhabitants of Putivl in the middle of the XIII century, on the site of which in 2007 a stone cross was erected. According to The Tale of Igor's Campaign, Princess Yaroslavna was crying on the walls of Putivl, waiting for her husband from the Polovtsian captivity. On the territory of the settlement there is a park with a monument to Yaroslavna, from here a picturesque panorama of the river and the city opens.
